The accidental expatriate blogger behind Calm Harbor Trail

Hi there, I'm Chiara
I am a project manager. A parent. An expat living in Firenze, Italy.
Several years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually evolved into a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Relocating to Italy wasn't anticipated in the long-term plan. Like many expat moves, it started as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far larger.
The first several months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more complex than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Built Calm Harbor Trail
Most information online was either corporate relocation guidance or surface-level tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site exists to bridge that gap — practical guidance drawn from real life in Italy.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Practical knowledge gained from living in Italy
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever a real change occurs
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a paid-review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our time in Italy continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll keep documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Firenze or anywhere in Italy, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Chiara
